DAYWORK SHEET FOR DRYLINING AND FITOUT CONTRACTORS

Daywork sheet template for drylining contractors

Daywork is extra work you charge for by the time and materials it took, because it can't be priced from the rates in your quote. If the sheet isn't filled in and signed while the work is fresh, getting paid for it gets much harder.

Our daywork record sheet is a one-page site version in the Quote Pack, with a filled-in example.

When daywork applies

Daywork covers work that can't be valued using the normal rules or rates in your contract. Under JCT contracts it's used when a change to the scope or specification can't be valued any other way.

On a drylining job that might be stripping out and re-boarding after another trade has damaged your work, or a one-off alteration asked for on site.

What a daywork sheet should show

  • Sheet number, project, date and where on site the work was done

  • The instruction it relates to, such as a CVI number

  • Labour: who worked on it and how many hours

  • Materials used, with quantities

  • Any plant or equipment used, with hours

  • A signature from the main contractor's or client's representative, on the day

Get it signed on the day

Daywork records need to be made at the time. Under the JCT Design and Build contract, they go to the employer for checking within seven days of the work being done.

In practice, a supervisor won't sign for work they can't check, and two weeks later they can't. Get the signature before you leave site.

How daywork is priced

The RICS definition of prime cost of daywork covers the labour, materials and plant you used, without your overheads and profit. Agreed percentage additions then go on top. Some contracts use all-inclusive daywork rates instead.

Either way, agree your daywork rates or percentages in your quote or contract before any daywork happens.

Where daywork fits with your other paperwork

  1. You're asked to do extra work on site. You send a confirmation of verbal instruction the same day.

  2. If the work can be priced up front, you send a variation order and get it agreed.

  3. If it can't, you do it as daywork and record it on a daywork sheet, signed on the day.

All three documents are in the Quote Pack, along with a drylining quote template.

Common questions

Is a daywork sheet the same as a timesheet?

No. A timesheet records your team's hours for paying them. A daywork sheet records the labour, materials and plant used on a specific piece of extra work, so you can charge for it.

What if the supervisor won't sign it?

Write down their name, the time, and that they declined to sign. Then email them a copy the same day, so there's a dated record.

Does the template work out the totals?

No. You enter your own hours, quantities and rates.

This page is general information, not legal advice. How daywork is recorded and valued depends on your contract.
